Job Description:

US Signal is a leading data center services provider, offering secure, reliable network, cloud hosting, colocation, data protection, and disaster recovery services — all powered by its expansive, robust fiber network. We are seeking a System Administratorto join our growing team in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The System Administrator is responsible for operating, maintaining and patching the US Signal internal infrastructure. The internal IT infrastructure includes, but is not limited to Microsoft Windows Active Directory, Cisco UCS, VMWare, and Cisco Call Manager. Additionally, this position will be interacting with users, making a customer service-oriented personality a must.


  • Assist in research, design, development, documentation, maintenance, and security of US Signal’s Windows Server infrastructure.
  • Support the applications running on the Windows Servers including Microsoft Exchange, MS SQL, Great Plains Dynamics, File Sharing, Active Directory Domain Services, Terminal Services, etc.
  • Responsible for administration and support of the Cisco Call Manager
  • Responsible for backup, restore and disaster recovery planning of the Windows and Cisco Phone System infrastructure.
  • Maintain a highly available Windows and Cisco Phone System infrastructure.
  • Document all procedures and installs of new products.
  • Work in a team environment to ensure that all development activities are done in a consistent, cohesive manner and meet stated commitment deadlines and functionalities.
  • Receive shipments from vendors and enter into inventory system.
  • Build and configure PC and Mac laptops for new users.
  • Maintenance and support of cell phone plans and handsets.
  • Interact with end users via phone, email and trouble tickets to resolve support issues.
  • Other System Administrative projects as assigned by US Signal Management.

Experience and Skills:


  • Knowledge of best practices in Windows System operation and configuration.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows Active Directory, DNS and DHCP.
  • Good project management skills are a must.
  • High level of productivity, analytical ability, attention to detail, accuracy and excellent organization skills.
  • Ability to work well with all areas of the US Signal organization as well as with vendors.
  • The ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously is critical.


The desired candidate will possess experience in Computer Information Systems. A BS in Computer Science is a plus.


  • Minimum two to three years’ experience maintaining and operating Windows Servers.
  • Previous experience in Microsoft 365 administration required.
  • Experience with Backups using Veeam.
  • Technical experience in a telecom environment is a plus.
  • Networking and network monitoring experience is preferred.
  • Prior experience in both Windows and Unix/Linux operating system environments.
  • Experience in VMWare vSphere is preferred.
  • Experience with network hardware and network management software is desirable.
  • Cisco Unified Call Manager Phone System Administration experience is desirable.
  • Ubuntu Linux Server administration experience is a plus.
  • Experience in database environments, web-related and client/server environments as well as network management platform experience would be considered a plus.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

This position operates in a variety of environments. The majority of the time is spent in a professional office environment and this role routinely uses standard office equipment.

Required License(s)/Certification(s):

  • MCSA and MCSE Certification is ideal.
  • Valid, active driver’s license with a good driving record as defined by the Company’s current insurance provider.
