Job Description:

US Signal is a leading data center services provider, offering secure, reliable network, cloud hosting, colocation, data protection, and disaster recovery services — all powered by its expansive, robust fiber network. US Signal also helps customers optimize their IT resources through the provision of managed services and professional services.

We are seeking a Professional Services Engineer to join our team in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This role is located at our corporate headquarters and is not a remote position.

The Professional Services Engineer (PSE) supports the Professional Services team. This position requires an individual to be customer focused, self-motivated and to take initiative to satisfy the growing professional services needs of our customers.

As a member of the Professional Services team, the PSE provides technical guidance to the Sales team and the customers they support, ensuring that implementations of US Signal’s professional and managed services are well designed, supportable and meet customer requirements.

This position interacts heavily with our customers, sales architects and project managers. As such, a high level of emphasis will be placed on an employee’s communication skills. While it is critical that the PSE exhibits superior technical abilities, it is the PSE’s communication skills that will determine success in the position.

The PSE reports to the Manager of Professional Services and may take direction from members of the Executive Team.

Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Ensure our customer’s needs are being satisfied with an intense focus on customer service.
  • Perform professional services for customers such as migrating servers to US Signal’s Cloud Infrastructure or creating, integrating or upgrading of customer server and application environments.
  • Perform daily operations to support managed services such as managed backups, disaster recovery as a service and remote management and monitoring.
  • Work with PSE team members and project managers to deliver service-based solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and remediate issues within the customer’s environment.
  • Work with customers, vendors and partners as required.
  • Other projects as assigned my US Signal Management.

Experience and Skills:

Competencies:

  • Must maintain a fierce dedication to customer service.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills.
  • In depth knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory and MS Windows Server.
  • Experience with data center migrations is a major plus.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft business applications such as Exchange, SharePoint, SQL Server, System Center, and Dynamics is a plus.
  • Familiarity with backup and disaster recovery procedures, testing and software.
  • Working knowledge of Linux OS is advantageous.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work remotely at customer sites as needed.

Education:

Extensive Information Technology training and/or equivalent experience in Computer Information Systems, Distributed Computing, Database Management. Certifications are desired. A B.S. in Computer Science or related field is a plus, but not required.

Experience:

1+ years’ experience working in an enterprise IT setting is required. Extra consideration will be given to candidates with experience performing paid services for customers.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

This position operates in a variety of environments. The majority of the time is spent in a professional office environment and this role routinely uses standard office equipment.

Required License(s)/Certification(s):

Current Microsoft, VMware, ITIL or other related certifications strongly desired. Valid, active driver’s license with a good driving record as defined by the Company’s current insurance provider.
